Cytoplasmic Writings - December 2005 Archives

All the boring-ass entries from December 2005. Have fun!

Can you believe that Christmas is almost here? This year I decided to buy a few more gifts for people. Well, not really. I've decided I'm going to give away some of my excess cards to my nieces and nephew. They love that stuff or I think they do. What better way to get into the hearts of young children then by giving them toys? They'll never know it's my extra stock! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I work this week from 1:00 pm to 9:30 pm. I shift around a lot but I must say that this shift isn't that good. It's not really enough time to do something productive in the morning and it's definitely not a good time to do anything after work. So you end up just sleeping, bumming around for an hour, working and then bumming around for another couple of hours. I'm lucky I cooked on Sunday, otherwise, I'd be having tuna sandwiches all week.

I'm learning a lot of new things while making this page. Thanks to Dave for pointing out that my site wasn't working on Firefox. It was just the way I was entering my CSS. The load times for the site are still a little slow for my liking but that might be due to the preloaded images and positioning. Some of the websites that have been created by CSS are amazing. Something to aim for right? I'll just settle with the friendly web design feud with Andrew Ma. Though he's light years ahead of me right now. Dun worry, I'm on warp factor 9! GEEK ATTACK!

I'm coming home this weekend for the quick 1-2 and then back to Waterloo for work. It's nice to get paid 2 and 1/2 times for your job. Too bad taxes will take most of it away. I hope to retrieve some of that during tax time. The good news is that Jenn is coming up with me. We're gonna spend the whole week watching all those movies that we've wanted to watch. I even bought a whole bunch of movie vouchers. What's on that list? King Kong, Dukes of Hazzard, Aeon Flux, V for Vendetta...man the list goes on. Oh yeah I hear the boys now have a new hangout for bubbles. LOL. Guess it was time for a change I guess.

Okay, this is my last post before heading back to Toronto. For those who celebrate, Merry Christmas! Everyone else have a great Boxing Day and enjoy yourself. Till next time.

Well this is it. This is my new website. The look is different but the content is the same. The same boring stuff from lazy old me. The good thing about this site is that I'm learning some new stuff. Cascading Style Sheets 2 is great and eventually I'm going to integrate this site with some php coding and some MySQL databases. The geek in me is definitely stirring.

Besides the web page, I had to deal with a computer emergency this week. My video card died on Tuesday. Yup, my Matrox DualHead video card that cost me 400 bucks, which in turn, has also rendered my Matrox-addon card (also $400) useless as well. At first my motherboard would just beep and nothing would post. I was freaking out, thinking that it was the motherboard. That would have sucked as a new computer would not have been an option for me. The good thing is that dual monitor video cards are cheap nowadays and I ended up buying a $72 card as a replacement. Of course, I had to wait 3 days because the computer store I went to didn't have it in stock. Well actually they did have it in stock but they didn't look hard enough. I ended up buying another brand which didn't have the DVI-VGA convertor included. So now I'm short a convertor but I don't want to buy it for 12 bucks when EPROM sells it for much less. Maybe I'll just wait and not use my scanner computer for a little while. Anyways, since my computer is about 5 years old, I was worried about AGP and compatibility issues. I learned a lot about AGP ports and their specifications. My motherboard was a newer revision and actually has the AGP 2.0 spec 1.5 volt connector. Gotta love the Internet for the reference.

I spent most of yesterday removing the anti-glare coating off my monitor. I made a mistake and cleaned my monitor with alcohol, which removed some of the coating. I didn't even realize there was a coating. It explained why I kept thinking the images on the screen were a lot less brighter than usual. It took me some time to remove the coating. This stuff comes off easily like for a few lines and then the rest of it is a bitch to remove. I ended up buying several polishing products until I got some good quality auto polish. With some elbow grease, I managed to remove the coating. Now I think I was a little too vigorous and there is moire on my screen, probably from some scratches. Shit. I have to probably get some type of glass polisher to shine things up. Dammit.

Well, I've rambled long enough here. I hope you all like my new website. Stay tuned for more updates on the website as I get more things completed or ported over from the old site. Till next time, thanks for all the fish.
