Cytoplasmic Writings - Month Archives
Lots of fun stuff happened in June. A shopping trip to the States, my work bonus and projects at work. The end of my old IRT Server position and the start of my new position as an Escalation Team Member. It's almost like a new chapter has begun again. Wow, I can't believe it's already been 9 months in IRT Server. Crazy.

Live Free or Die Hard is out! Need...to...watch....it...John...McClane...is...DA MAN!!!! Gah...I haven't watched Pirates 3 yet either so I gues I'll be watching that firstly. Looks like we're not going fishing this year. Boat rentals are fairly expensive and since we spent so much in the US and there are two weddings (stupid presents) that Jenn and I have to attend, we don't want to spend friviously. I'd rather spend some relaxation time watching movies at home anyways. It's free and my parents house is AIR CONDITIONED!!!! Woohoo!!
For those who are on Facebook, I don't really visit it often...maybe once or twice every two weeks. If you want a more efficient way of getting a hold of me, I suggest emailing me. After all, I work for the company that "invented" push email. I'm pretty sure I'll get your emails hehehehe. It's amazing how popular things become. A co-worker of mine showed me a clip about "Charlie the White Unicorn". It was interesting but it's already got a cult following. Amazing how things can get so popular so quickly. The Internet is indeed all powerful and almighty.
Anyways. I hope everyone enjoys their Canada Day long weekend. Whatever you may be doing, have lots of fun celebrating the birth of our nation. The weather is supposed to be gorgeous in Ontario so enjoy it! Excelsior!

Ugh. This humidity is killing me. The ceiling fan makes it better at night when it's cooler but during the day, it's a billion degrees hotter upstairs than downstairs. I'm sweating like a pig. Thank goodness for regular day shifts right now. Otherwise I wouldn't be enjoying my time at home but instead sleeping in the basement for the entire day. I definitely need air conditioning when I move out.
Wow...the guest list for the Comic Expo is pretty impressive. It's very tempting to go this year but I'm sticking to my guns and avoid going to the expo once again. The good side is all the money I'll save from not going to this convention. It's easy to pop a few hundred dollars on trade paperbacks and convention exclusives. I'm still a sucker for variant covers and the completist in me refuses to die off. It's a good thing I'm a lazy completist and there are so many collections that have yet to be finished. I still don't have a full set of every Star Wars CCG set out there. I'm missing a ton from Reflections III and a few from Reflections I. I was searching Ebay and found that one seller has a ton of the tournament foils on sale. That's awesome because tournament foils used to go for approximate 10-100 dollars depending on the card (such as the foil ISD). The bad news is that any extras are really deemed useless and worthless. I've seen Star Wars CCG cards selling for a dollar when I used to buy them for well over twenty. Well, you win some and you lose some.

Back from the trip to Niagara Falls/Buffalo. It was an awesome trip and I had a ton of fun. Bought all the things I wanted to and more. I ended up spending extra money and was caught declaring the wrong amount. Got a warning, blacklisted and payed the taxes. Oh well. Regardless of this, it was still a great trip. I guess I should have read more about the exemptions. If you stayed in the US for more than 48 hours, each person is allowed $400 in exemptions. Wow. That would have been nice. Next time I guess.
So Jenn got me the LEGO UCS AT-ST. My first UCS model since the X-Wing and TIE Fighter back in the day. The model looks awesome but I don't have room to build it right now. She also got the Y-Wing re-release. I'm pretty much caught up on all the sets for 2007 until Toysrus releases the Hoth Base exclusive. Didn't find any open hobby stores. Instead we bought a whole slew of cheap t-shirts. Jenn has a few of those t-shirts up on her Facebook page.
Food was pretty good too. We went to a place called Panera's Bread. It's a cafe/bakery with some really good food for a decent price. It was so good we went back for lunch the next day. Breakfast was at the Original Pancake House again and this time I had the Dutch Baby, this huge pancake bowl filled with butter, icing sugar, lemon juice and fresh strawberries. A very interesting and unhealthy breakfast. Dinner as was the Olive Garden. Man, it's been so long since I've been to an Olive Garden. The food was pretty good, but the proportions were a little small. The salad they provided was an exact replica of the East Side Mario's salad. Kewl.
This is the last week in my IRT Server position until I head to the escalation team. I get a laptop! Woohoo! I'll learn more about the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and how to read the logs and such. It's going to be a very interesting time I think. Lots of work and learning to do. Hopefully it was be a great learning experience for me. I'm looking forward to being off the phones and concentrating on other types of issues and challenges.

Word on the street is that the Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer movie is pretty bad. After looking at some of the previews and hearing what some of my co-workers had to say about the movie, it definitely sounds like it sucks. I'll probably watch it at a later day then. Jenn and I still need to watch Pirates 3 and I definitely have to watch Live Free and Die Hard. Bruce Willis is DA MAN!
I'm so excited to head out to Buffalo this week with Jenn. We've decided to stay a night there in some motel. It was a decent rate. Some things I need to get: A new dress shirt for weddings this year, some dress shoes, some Dockers and other clothing, LEGO, and possibly some other hobbie items. The Canadian dollar has been so strong that it's worth it to head over the border to do some shopping. I'm also looking forward to some time "off" with Jenn. No renovations or family around. Definitely nice. Unfortunately, there's gonna be a lot of driving involved so I'm dreading the impending tiredness. I'm just getting old...Anyways, everyone have a great weekend and I'll be back next week.

I got 4 weeks worth of comic books last weekend. It didn't cost as much as anticipated and there were some good books in the lot. I wasn't too impressed with the World War Hulk. It's one thing to make the Hulk really powerful. It's another to make him virtually unstoppable. If the Hulk was as powerful as he has currently been written to be, the Avengers would have been toast a long time ago. Black Bolt fell so easily that it was insulting. I think Marvel's writers continue to insult the intelligence of their fan base. On that note, the DC stuff isn't that much better either. Countdown really seems like a cash grab on the success of 52. I wouldn't be surprised that sales will drop sharply for the series, especially when the book costs more than 52. Lots of other books that were worth mentioning but I don't want to list them all. Too lazy.
Looking at several of the new projects that are coming out and I'm not all too impressed with the comics. It's the same stuff over and over again. Marvel conveniently has an out for the death of Captain America. In New Avengers, it was revealed that Elektra was a shape-shifting Skrull. Nice. Shapeshifters. Great. Quesada does have the balls to make Captain America a Skrull. That would actually be really funny. Fooled everyone no? We'll see where this entire Skrull revelation will lead to. With so many crappy books coming out, I'm looking forward to a quiet summer.

So tired here so this will be a brief post. These early morning rises coupled with working out at night can sure be tiring. Especially with no air conditioning and this swealtering heat. The humidity and heat make me tired and when you couple that with a meal, BAM! you out for the count! Nothing too eventful over the last few days. I did learn how to sand a parquet floor and then re-gloss it. That was an interesting (and very) tiring experienced.
Got some Transformers Movie cards. I didn't get the one (yup...one autograph in this set) Autograph by Megan Fox but I didn't manager to get 2 sketch cards and 2 memorabilia cards. Topps really screwed up this release. I would imagine the set to be bigger with such a great cast of characters. Maybe Topps is concentrating all their effors to the Star Wars 30th Anniversary cards. Only time will tell I guess.
Okay, I'll just fallen asleep while typing a few times. It's time for me go. Shit...I don't remember what I typed. Gah.

The Ottawa Senators are one loss away from losing the Stanley Cup! Woohoo! Yeah, I'm taking this too far but it's way to fun to stop now. Let's go Ducks!
The Transformers Movie cards are released tomorrow but some cards are already showing up on Ebay. I think Topps screwed the pooch on this one. They don't even have a website with information regarding the set. Great advertising. I heard that there is only one autograph and there will be sketches and memorabilia. The memorabilia isn't too special either. It just seems like the cards were an afterthought to the movie. It could have been a really good product. Well, I'll see what I get in the few boxes that I ordered. Maybe that Megan Fox autograph.
Two days down and three more to go! I'm starting to enjoy some of the work more now that I know there's light at the end of the tunnel. However, it sucks cuz two of my co-workers have left and transferred to other groups already. We had a get together yesterday and our sitting area isn't the same anymore. It sucks because most of the co-workers I've become good friends with don't work in the same building anymore. Well, I'm supposed to get an hour lunches soon so maybe we can go out to eat sometime.
Oooo. I broiled my first steaks today and they looked great! I had a little piece (they were for the rest of my meals this week) and it was nice and juicy! I think I need to use the broiler more! Of course the little broiler over kinda sucked, but our regular-sized oven is kick-ass! It's like having a BBQ in your house! I hope I don't suffer from broiling overload...gotta watch what I broil.

One Event Over
So my buddy's bachelor party was this weekend. I had to organize it since I am the best man for his wedding. I think it turned out okay. Since it's a bachelor party, we don't speak of what goes on hehehe. Most of my weekend was spend running around trying to get things done for the party. It was sad, my "clubbing" clothes were clothes from six years ago...I need a new wardrobe.
June is going to be a busy month for me. Renovations are almost done so I'm going to be unpacking/packing up my stuff in Toronto. That's gonna take at least a full weekend. A shopping trip to the States as well is planned. I was supposed to go to the Toronto Comicon but I realized the admission price and me not spending any money would make a visit pointless. The guest list didn't have anyone I really wanted to meet. I have noticed that my interest in comics is cycling again with it being below the normal "interest" I would have. I guess it's the summer time and other things are coming up.
This will be my last week on the telephones before I head to another project. I have to get used to the 9-5:30 shift again. Waking up at 7 am each day is killer. Let's hope the week goes by fast! So that means, I gotta go sleep early tonight or I'll be paying for the lack of sleep from the weekend tomorrow. Cheers!
