So during my absence online, there were a lot of very interesting events that happened. One of these was the federal election of Canada. It was an interesting election where the Liberals got a dismal amount of votes and the Conservatives didn't get the majority they so desparately wanted. During the campaign, the economies of the world were starting to slump dramatically. Canada's financial system, which wasn't too entangled in the sub-prime mortgage crisis, escaped relatively unharmed compared to other financial institutions around the world. This gave Stephen Harper some ammunition to use. He downplayed the current crisis and eventually took it a little too far during a "mini-budget". The result was a threat to take down the minority government and form a coalition government between the Liberals and NDP with the Bloc agreeing to support the coalition (ie not pursue it's separatist agenda for 18 months). So the Conservative government did the only thing it could do, it prorogued (suspended) parliment until the new year.
So just the last few days, Parliment came back into session with a new Liberal leader and a new budget presented by the Conservatives...a very different budget than I think the Conservatives wanted to present. The Liberals decided to support the budget and thus ended the short-lived coalition.
What I found interesting about all this was how the Conservatives portrayed the coalition has undemocratic and an attack on all things Canada. The Conservatives definitely have a well-oiled media machine and was able to really convince a lot of Canadians that the coalition was wrong when it wasn't. It was a legal alternative to the current government. Anyways, I just really wanted to post a very interesting myth/fact poll made by the CBC. I personally think it's not a good idea to have some who can say these things in a span of 5-6 months leading our government during a very serious time. Anyways, check it out.
Cheers,
Steve

My first real post on this website in 6 months. Yowzers. So a lot of things have gone by in the last little while. I'll sum it briefly in this post to catch people up on what's being going on.
I'm now back in Toronto! Woohoo! So I was successful in finding a position with IT Support within RIM at the Mississauga Campus. I got lucky and I absolutely love the new position. So many things to learn and do and I didn't realize how much I missed computers. Total GEEKDOM! Awesome! I started the new position last September and that's around the time I moved back to Toronto. It was sad to leave my "own" place and head back but it was about time.
So I stayed with my parents for about two months doing the 401 commute to Mississauga. Totally awful. Drivers in Toronto are bad. So many who don't know how to drive properly or provide courtesy. There were several near misses during these days. Anyways the stay with my parents was short-lived as Jenn and I were actively looking for a place. We found one near my work and it was still in Toronto! So we moved in together in November! Wooohooo!
So with the move came the massive task of moving my STUFF. Holy shit I have a lot of crap. I had accumulated more crap in the last few years as well. I have to start selling the base sets for my cards and also my comic books. Now it's almost been three months and I think we're starting to settle in. So onward to the next news byte!
I'm getting married in 9 days! Yup, Jenn and I have decided to get married. It's a civic ceremony so no huge wedding or anything like that. Just a few friends as witnesses. Though we did learn first hand that we should have been prepared for some of the more traditional Chinese things. After nearly five years of dating, we've both decided that the time was right. Jenn's awesome and I can't imagine spending the rest of my life without her. Wow...I'm joining the ranks of the married...
So that's my life in the last six months in a whirlwind. Oh right...I got a new computer too so I've been lazy in trying to get this site up cuz I have to redo a few things. I was first thinking of making a new design but that would mean I wouldn't post anything until 2010. Better stick with this for now. Anyways, glad to be back and hope to have more posts. Cheers!
