Review

When Topps first announced this set there were expectations of Autographs, Memorabilia cards and Sketch Cards. With boxes around the 40 dollar price range and the hype behind the Transformers brand, these cards were going to be great.

However, in typical Topps fashion, no information regarding the set was officially released. You can't even find that they released this set on their internet site. With the lack of information, I still decided to pre-order 4 boxes of the product.

So right before the release date, Topps updated their retailers advising that only Megan Fox signed for the series and there were only 2 memorabilia cards (both of Soccent soldiers' uniforms. There was still no comprehensive sketch card artist list either. This once promising set because an instant dud. Regardless, I had ordered four boxes so I was hoping to get a few good sketches and possibly the Megan Fox autograph.

There were two insert subsets for the hobby release. One was a foil subset and another was an embossed card subset. Both had very similar imaages and were average at best. The actual base cards were average as well. Some of the cards had VERY grainy images on them and were difficult to look at. The sketch cards reminded me of the quality you had with Topps original offers with Star Wars; quick 1 minute pencil sketches.

Overall, this set was disappointing. A great base card set and inserts subset would have made up for the lack of autographs and memorabilia cards. However, this was not the case and every aspect of the card set was disappointing. With Transformers being hyped as THE summer blockbuster, Topps could have made a quality product. It's a shame a crappy product came out instead.
