Star Wars Customizable Card Game
The Star Wars Customizable Card Game was perhaps the most complicated card game I've played so far. I remember reading the instructions several times before even attempting to play with my friends. The game featured live action shots from the movies. The card design was spectacular and the foil subsets were great.
Unfortunately, the game had become too complicated after a dozen or so expansion sets. The game had a steep learning curve and this turned away a lot of new players. This lack of new interest coupled with Hasbro buying Wizards of the Coast lead to the eventual non-renewal to the Star Wars license to Decipher. Wizards of the Coast already published Star Wars role-playing games so it seemed logical. Of course, the new game really sucked so I quickly lost interest. A group of fans decided to continue the game by creating Virtual Cards. These virtual cards replaced the game text on existing cards. Again, I lost interest as I was a fringe player and more of a collector.
Even with the game's demise, there are thousands of listings on Ebay for Star Wars CCG cards. Over the course of a few years, I had amassed over 20, 000 Star Wars CCG cards. That may seem to be a lot, but I do know of other people who dwarved my collection. I have complete sets of most of the sets and I'm missing some of the promos and the Japanese editions. One day, I hope to have the full run of Star Wars CCG. These cards are simply too beautiful to throw away.
