Reviews - The Authority Vol. 4 #1
Utopian
The first issue of the greatly anticipated new Authority series by Grant Morrison and Gene Ha finally hits the shelves and the first thing I notice is that none of the members of the Authority are in the comic book. What?! The Authority is definitely on both covers of the book, but there is no sign of them within the book.
I'm not to perturb by this as the story was interesting enough that I was able to forget that little detail. Morrison treats us to glimpse of a regular covert operative who is assigned to investigate a downed Norwegian submarine. Morrison does let on to the bigger picture at the end of the book, but I'm sure a lot of Authority fans will be pissed that none of the main characters showed up.
I enjoy this approach that Morrison is taking and I know that the members of The Authority will show up in due time. I'm more interested in where Morrison is headed with this story arc. It most likely has to tie in with the company-wide WorldStorm event.
Gene Ha's artwork is great. I loved how he never drew the main character's face in the any of the panels to really reveal who he is. It's not like we need to know right? Just another grunt that looks like he's going to get killed by something much more powerful than he is.
Interesting start to the series and I look forward to the next issue.
