Reviews - Bite Club: Vampire Crime Unit #5
Shot Through The heart and you're to blame...you give love a bad name!
The end of the second Bite Club mini-series and it has one of the longest issue titles I've seen. The issue wraps up all the loose ends from the first series and the mini-series. Last issue solved the crime and this issue tells about the aftermath.
Fortine gets played like a fiddle by the Del Toros and ends up owing them as they take out Carrie Stein and miraculously find the paperwork that authorized Stein's involvement as an informant. Risa Del Toro is absolved of the murder charges and continues to run the family business while Macavoy quits the force. They both decide the relationship between them will never work.
Chaykin and Tischman close out another fine miniseries in the Bite Club world. The issue is needed for a lot of closure. However, the issue as just as confusing as the entire mini-series. There were so many plot twists and turns that I found myself confused over the main plot. The first miniseries has a very streamlined story while this series seems a little too complicated. I would have enjoyed the series more if there weren't so many different levels to deal with.
David Hahn's art is good and I really enjoy the use of tones for each page. I didn't really notice this colouring trend until the review. I really enjoyed how each scene was a different colour tone. It helped separate all the complicated plot lines. The layouts were also good and the comic really flowed well. I hope that Hahn will be doing more work.
Interesting ending to the series. The closure was needed, but it really did feel like an unnecessary issue. Not as surprising as the first miniseries.
