The Others Among Us Part Two
This is the second issue of the new Martian Manhunter miniseries. J'onn has gone through some significant changes in the first issue. Firstly, he's abandoned the humanoid form we all know and love. J'onn has decided to show his true Martian form (along with a new costume).
Last issue, J'onn discovered that he is not the last Martian alive and that there are others and these others have been captured by the government and experiments conducted on them. Of course, J'onn isn't happy and you don't get the Martian with power levels equal to Superman angry.
J'onn breaks into the facility and frees his fellow Martians. Before they can escape they are trapped and while J'onn advocates stealth and diplomacy, his fellow Martians think differently and take over the minds of the soldiers sent to re-capture them. Some serious actions are then taken by the Martians whilst J'onn watches on. Interesting...
I don't really know who A.J. Lieberman is and what else he has done, but it story is so far intriguing. The only thing is that J'onn really does seem a little out of character. I would have never expected him to stand idly by as humans were murdered by Martians, no matter how badly the humans mistreated the Martians. Perhaps this will be addressed in future issues of the miniseries.
I am also unfamiliar with Al Barrionuevo's artwork, though there are parts in the book that remind me of Bryan Hitch. The artwork itself isn't bad; there are a few places where the backgrounds don't do anything for me. Not the greatest artwork, but it doesn't interfere with the actual storytelling.
Decent issue, probably not worth the full price I paid for. It would have been better to pick up the trades. Unfortunate for me, I'm a completist so I'll get the entire miniseries.
