Reviews - Ms. Marvel #7
Battle Lines
Another Civil War tie-in. Ms. Marvel and Wonder Man have been assigned the task of bringing in Arana. Arana realizes that she does indeed need training and opts to register.
Meanwhile, Arachne (Julia Carpenter) has defected and gone rogue. Her lover, Shroud, is a fugitive and she defected to protect him. As Arachne and Shroud try to make their escape, Ms. Marvel and Wonder Man are re-assigned to hunt them down. Shroud is captured by Arachne escapes.
Another tie-in that fleshes out the entire Civil War storyline. I really don't understand the ease at which many of Marvel's superheroes have turned against their friends. The government orders them to take down friends and allies and they willingly do it with barely a hesitation. Civil War is a great idea but the road which Millar and co. have taken is simply unbelievable, even for comics.
Brian Reed does a good job with this tie-in. I may not like Civil War but it's still an interesting read. I'm interested in knowing what Marvel's direction will be after this crossover. Things are definitely changed, but how quickly are things forgotten? There's already talk about the big even for next year: World War Hulk. Sigh.
Roberto De La Torre continues his run on Ms. Marvel. His art at times has been weak, but it hasn't distracted me too much from the story. The art reminds me of standard Top Cow material. There's definitely potential here and I hope his art keeps improving.
I'm glad I picked up this book because it does answer a few questions that couldn't be answered within the Civil War mini-series. Like I said before, I don't like Civil War, but at least it's tightly connected and almost all areas of the Marvel Universe are involved.
Sadly, Ms. Marvel hasn't been that interesting in general. She's such a powerful character yet her own series has her taking down second-tiered villains. Ms. Marvel is used more effectively in New Avengers for crying out loud! After Civil War, Ms. Marvel is off the pull list.
