Reviews - Wolverine Origins #5
The first story arc is at an end and Daniel Way has taken us for quite a ride. We've seen Wolverine infiltrate the White House, go to Japan, tackle the Winter Soldier, fight Nuke and take on Captain America. Wow. Wolverine IS the ultimate weapon! Right...
In this issue we have Emma Frost, Cyclops and Hellion stepping in to stop Wolverine. There's some pretty good action in the book with Wolverine battling his team members. I'd tell you the storyline but I'm not too sure what it is. There's a lot of fighting and there's a lot of talking. The revelation near the end of the book was lame. First Superman in the new movie and now Wolverine? LOL.
I love the Wolverine character but Marvel has gone too far to capitalize on his popularity. The guy has claws and a healing factor. Half the super-heroes and villains in the Marvel Universe can probably kill him. The sword is the only thing that will kill Wolverine? I'm pretty sure there are an infinite number of ways to easily kill Wolverine besides the sword he gives Captain America. LAME!!!
The artwork is fantastic. I love Steve Dillon's work and he really adds depth to characters with his facial expressions. Dillon is also a workhorse and can keep a monthly schedule easily unlike some of the other high-profile books. Gary Frank's cover is amazing and Quesada's sketch version really shows the detail he puts into this artwork.
The issue was so-so and the story arc was okay. I'll continue with the series to see where Way takes Wolverine. Next issue has Omega Red so it's nice to see all the old characters back.
