Reviews - Y The Last Man #51
Motherland Part Three
The reason for the near extinction of the male side of humanity is revealed in this issue, or is it? Brian K. Vaughan reveals who kidnapped Ampersand and the individual responsible for unleashing the cause that swept the world, killing every single man on the planet.
We are also privy to a pretty good fight between Agent 355 and the ninja Toyota. The reasoning behind the start of the plague is interesting and somewhat plausible. I definitely prefer it over the amulet or some ancient prophecy which was hinted at in the very beginning of this series.
It seems that Yorrick and his band have been severely side-tracked by these new revelations. There was no mention of the sub-plot involving Yorrick's sister in the States trying to protect the newborn boy from the astronaut storyline. Of course, there hasn't been a sign of Beth, Yorrick's girlfriend since we last saw her in Australia.
I'm eagerly anticipating the end of the Motherland story arc and I really want to know where Vaughan plans to take the story next. There's most likely an ending that Vaughan has in mind and I want to know what it is dammit!
Pia Guerra has been back as penciller for some time now and for some reason, I really enjoy her art for this series. Not too complicated and busy, but consistent throughout. Y The Last Man is one of the more consistent books I have on my pull list. It's always nice to know that a new issue is coming out every month, unlike Vaughan's other title, Ex Machina.
With story arcs like the ones in this series, it's important to stick to the schedule or you'll start to lose your audience. I don't think I'd still keep this book if it was always late. There's too much to remember and digging out all those back issues is a pain.
