Reviews - Zombie #1
After the success of Marvel Zombies, The Walking Dead and other zombie comic books, Marvel has decided to give another zombie tale a shot. I've never heard of Mike Raicht or Kyle Hotz, but this being a zombie tale, I thought I'd try it out.
The first issue has been good so far. We get introduced to the principle characters. We have Simon Garth, a bank manager that has been taken hostage by bank robbers; the two thieves; and some survivors of the initial zombie incident. The incident in question is a toxic chemical spill.
The story is nothing new, but do enjoy a good zombie story. You've got all the gore and violence expected in a zombie tale, and by placing this series in the MAX line, plenty of uncensored violence. Kyle Hotz's art is pretty good. Although some of his male characters look like Ash from Army of Darkness. In fact the art does remind me of the Army of Darkness cartoon, but this art is grittier. There are times in the issue that the finishes aren't that clean, but otherwise still enjoyable art.
I've enjoyed the first issue and I'm glad I decided to try it out. There are not super-heroes and no 616 characters. This seems to be zombie story published by Marvel without the direct tie-ins. If there was one thing to complain about the Marvel Zombies, it was the just another super-hero book.
I look forward to issue two to see what else Mike Raicht is going to put into the mini. Let's hope the rest of the series can live up to the expectations I've developed from reading issue #1.
