Model Kits

Hobbies >> Model Kits

My first plastic model kit was an SR-71 Blackbird bought on our family trip to Florida. I did not know a thing about model building and I built the Blackbird in an hour. I remember having sticky hands and touching the canopy. Well, my Blackbird looked like it was shot with a machine-gun. Great fun. In the late eighties and early nineties I started getting into Japanese model kits. Japan has a much larger and more diverse model kit industry. That was my introduction to multi-coloured model kits and precision model kit building. Great stuff.

Gundam Kits

Gundam Kits

Bandai is an amazing model kit company. They have been producing Mobile Suit Gundam model kits for over twenty years and these kits are simply amazing. The majority of their kits are snap-tight so they do not require glue. The plastics come in various colours so kids don't have to paint or glue their models. Just build them right out of the box and you have a cool robot toy. Nowadays, there are crazy modellers who make custom Gundam models. I'll be showcasing some kewl new kits and some old favourites as well here.

Sci-fi Kits

Science Fiction Kits

Besides Mobile Suit Gundam model kits, I've collected the very popular Macross series. Model kits seem to be very popular in Japan with lots of stores packed with model kits. I've seen a recent explosion of science fiction kits from some great manufacturers. Fine Molds has create an excellent Star Wars series and Hasegawa's Macross line-up is top-notch. Read more about these model kits here.

Military Kits

Military

When one thinks about model kits, they think of building their first fighter or tank right? I remember wanting to build a tank model but was always afraid because the pictures I saw in magazines were gorgeous. My crappy tank model would look like...well crap. My first tank model kit? I think it was either a Sherman tank or one of the WWII British tanks.

General Kits

General Kits & Figurines

I've never really enjoyed building regular model kits. I don't like building cars or houses or boats. However, there was a time when I really wanted to build some motorcycle model kits. My friend Dave gave me one that I have yet to finish. Let's hope I can finish it soon and put it up on the mantle. I'm also going to put the very popular PVC figures here as well. Coming from Japan again, these PVC figurines are of fan-favourite anime shows. Some are very tongue and cheek with upskirt shots and some are just plain cute.

Projects

Projects & Other Stuff

This is where I hope to start documenting and showcasing some of the model kits I'm working on. To be honest, I'm not sure how much I'll be able to update this site. I've got so many different projects happening that I'm not sure where to begin.
