Television Shows

Hobbies >> Television

I've watched a lot of television over the years and there have been a lot of favourites; Too many to count and too many to list. I vaguely remember eagerly waiting for Buck Rogers every weekend and who could forget Linda Carter in the Wonder Woman uniform (O-M-G). So slowly, I'm going to add television shows that I enjoy to watch to this site. Some will be old and some will be fairly new. They will vary in genres but they all have one thing in common: I will always enjoy watching an episode.

Current Shows

These are shows that are still in production with new seasons. Some are too addictive to watch all the time but when I do get the chance to watch, I get hooked in right away and can't stop watching. Damn fine programs.

24

24

24 episodes in "real-time" following the events in one day. A really interesting concept with a ton of action and suspense. Follow the adventures of Jack Bauer, played brilliantly by Keifer Sutherland. There's a cliffhangar at the end of every episode and it is so addictive to watch that I try not to watch it on a regular basis. The show definitely gives new meaning to those weekend marathons where you watch the whole season.

Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica

This is the new Battlestar Galactica. Re-imagined for this generation, gone are the cheesy sci-fi effects and costumes. In it's place is some hardcore drama and action. The show tackles some tough issues and is not afraid to offend it's viewers. There is a very strong female cast that has been present since its inception. Fans of the old show complained loudly when it was announced Boomer and Starbuck were going to be females. These same fans are now loyal fans of the new series. It's Star Trek meets Star Wars which gets trampled by the Terminator and then kicked in the groin by Heat. Wow.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

An awesome concept for a television series. Following the members of the Las Vegas Crime Lab, the show showcases crimes that need to be solved through scientific discovery. DNA, fingerprinting, and general detective work help solve the crimes. The viewers are taken along for the ride as the investigators try to solve each case. Not always scientifically correct, the show still provides enough scientific know-how that criminals have become smarter in hiding their tracks (or so police have said).

Rescue Me

Rescue Me

Dennis Leary is the man. His humour has always been vulgar and he's always portrayed himself as an annoying asshole. He even had a song called Asshole. Great stuff. Dennis Leary is at his best when he's rated R (18+). Rescue Me is Dennis Leary at his best. A drama/comedy about New York firefighters post 9/11. Rescue Me is an emotional rollercoaster ride that just keeps pulling surprises on the audience. The soundtrack is awesome as well. I love the tracks featured in Rescue Me and it adds to the drama of the show. Fuck Yeah!

Older Shows

These are the classics or soon-to-be classics. I never tire of watching an old episode even though I know what the story is. When you're bored you can flip channels and when you see an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, you just stop and watch.

Andromeda

Andromeda

Often referred to as Hercules in Space, Andromeda or Starship Andromeda was created by Star Trek's Gene Roddenberry and developed into a television show by his widow, Majel Barrett. The show was promising with great writers and some great concepts. However, later seasons saw the departure of many of the good writers and the show drastically changed direction (even cast left). The show would eventually end with season five (enough episodes for syndication) and almost of the plotlines were resolved.

Star Trek: The Next Generation

Star Trek: The Next Generation

I consider this the best Star Trek series. The casting of Patrick Stewart was an absolute god-send in my opinion. Jean-Luc Picard was the opposite of William Shatner's James T. Kirk. Sure, the Star Trek universe was still a very sanitized universe with very Utopian ideals, but TNG had some really good episodes that I still watch over and over again. None of the newer series (Deep Space 9, Voyager, Enterprise) come close to TNG. TNG carried the tradition of the original series and didn't try as hard to preach "World Peace" as much as the newer series did.
